At the end of the 19th Century Karl May wrote “Cowboys and Indians” stories widely popular in Germany to this day. Its heros were “noble savages” called Apaches, and German carbon copies of the Deerslayer. May, however, had never been to America when he wrote his novels. Germany’s knowledge of America still suffers from this defect. Germans have a colorful image of America, however, that image has little to do with actual reality.
It is therefore little wonder that German Politicians of all stripes, repeat anti-american nonsense:

Conservative Parliamentarian Implies that the US is Exterminating Other Cultures

IIt is also typically German to provide a History lesson to others, even though Germany had and has a difficult time to learn historical lessons. Gauweiler infers that the US is attempting to exterminate cultures different from its own. I am not sure what kind of cultural aspirations (kulturelle Bestrebungen) are involved in suicide bombings and beheadings. However, I have no problem with eradicating suicide bombings and beheadings and those that support those. America is not out to destroy other cultures (like lets say Nazi Germany, Imperial France, etc), but it will fight those that threaten it. If Mr. Gauweiler wants to build his view of America on fiction, he should watch more John Wayne, and less Winnetou
